AXIS#.MOTOR.CTF0

Description

This parameter is used to configure the thermal constant of the motor coil, which is the break frequency of a single-pole low-pass filter model of the thermal dynamics of the motor coil.

This parameter, together with AXIS#.MOTOR.IPEAK and AXIS#.MOTOR.ICONT , determine the motor foldback (thermal protection) operating values.

Calculating AXIS#.MOTOR.CTF0

Most motor data sheets list the thermal time constant for the bulk motor, not specifically for the copper windings. There is about a 30:1 ratio of “bulk motor thermal time constant” to “copper winding (coil) thermal time constant (T)."

Therefore,

Bulk Motor Thermal Time Constant = T/30

Given a motor coil/winding thermal time constant T in seconds, then:

AXIS#.MOTOR.CTF0 mHz = 1000/(2πT/30)

For a bulk motor time constant in minutes:

AXIS#.MOTOR.CTF0 mHz = 1000/(2πT/180)

Given a bulk motor Thermal Time Constant, TCT, in seconds, then:

MOTOR.CTF0 = 1000 / (2π * TCT / 30)

The factor of 30 comes into play, since the coil or winding thermal time constant for Kollmorgen AKM motors is generally 30 times faster than the bulk motor thermal time constant.
